OTO Biscuit Theremin Heartbeat

We ran a Moog Etherwave Theremin through the OTO Biscuit and noticed a nice heartbeat occurred when the Theremin hit a very low note with a fast attack. The OTO Biscuit crushed the tone to bits which was also aided in the effect.

Thanks to Josh Flynn for shooting the video!

PLEASE NOTE: If you are listening through tiny computer speakers, do not waste your time listening. This will not sound like anything unless played thru some serious woofers or high end headphones which allow you to hear the low frequencies in this video.

All New BCM Website

The all "New" Big City Music website is now up and running. It looks similar to our old BCM website, but works far better. The search bar actually funtions - hallelujah! And it will no longer "time out" when you submit your order.

All gear is not yet listed on the new website, but everything will be steadily appearing in the coming weeks. Please call us if you need something that has not yet come up on the new site.

If you have the OLD BCM website bookmarked, DELETE IT because the URL no longer works. Just go to the simplified URL: www.bigcitymusic.com and bookmark this in its place (the old BCM website URL had an extension after the .com/). Thanks!

Pittsburgh Modular ViLFO + Bananalogue & Analogue Systems

Here's the new Pittsburgh Modular ViLFO (voltage-influenced LFO). In this video the ViLFO is modulating the pitch of an Analogue Systems rs95e oscillator. The ViLFO is being modulated by a pair of Bananalogue Serge VCS modules. We're creating a three-way modulation loop with the ViLFO which can yield some really nice results.

BCM welcomes Critter & Guitari!

The Critter and Guitari Recording Machine is a very fun box. We instantly fell in love as soon as Chris Kucinski showed it to us!

Here's a little demo sampling the Diabolical modified 707 into the Recording Machine. The Recording Machine can instantly sample whatever you plug into it, including your own voice using the goose-neck electret-condenser mic that is included with it. The samples can then be manipulated, stretching them out, speeding them up, reversing them too! There's a built-in speaker or a 1/4" output. Record, mangle, smile!

Dewanatron Osc - Stirred, not shaken

Here is the incomparable Dewanatron Triple Slice eurorack module being modulated with the Kilpatrick K4815 Pattern Generator. We are controlling the amount of STIR in the Triple Slice with the Analogue Systems LFO in the rs600 Performance Wheels module. We start out with no STIR, then add a little at slow and medium speed. The Triple Slice sounds beautiful straight, but really comes alive with a bit of STIR added!

4ms Shuffling Clock Multiplier

Here's the next installment of clock manipulating tools for eurorack from 4ms Pedals. The Shuffling Clock Multiplier gives you multiples of your original clock tempo. The "Rotate" jack from the RCD has come along and there's also a skip input which removes some of the gates depending on your voltage input. We're using an Analogue Systems rs-60 Envelope Generator module in hold mode for our static cv controlling the rotate amount.
Just like the name says, the SCM shuffles too! Outputs with an "S" next to the output denote a shuffled output. The shuffle amount is fixed but the forthcoming breakout panels will give you a knob and cv control of the amount, as well as controls for skip, rotate, pulse width and more. In this video we have four oscillators fed directly into a Cwejman VCA-4MX. The SCM gates are opening the Cwejman directly. Paired with the RCD, the SCM can greatly expand the rhythms generated by your modular synth!
Available now!

Kilpatrick K4815 Pattern Generator + Dewanatron Triple Slice

Here's the incredibly amazing Kilpatrick Audio K4815 Pattern Generator controlling the brand new Dewanatron Triple Slice oscillator. The K4815 is capable of producing an almost infinite amount of different patterns and sequences. You choose the pattern type, the motion type, the clock speed (different divisions of internal or external clock), and the gate time. You can choose forward or reverse, major or minor sequences and "large/small" which determines how many octaves your pattern will move through The gate out in this example is opening a Malekko/Wiard Borg filter in lowpass gate/VCA mode.

The Dewanatron Triple Slice is a beautiful sounding triangle oscillator with three wave slicing stages, Slicing is just like wavefolding. Imagine taking a triangle wave and inverting or folding it part way through so now the top portion of the triangle is inverted. There are three stages of this that can add varying degrees of complimentary harmonics to your original waveshape. The "Stir" amount controls the internal LFO's to modulate the amount of each slicing stage. There's also an external oscillator input that you can use to slice other oscillators or sound sources. The "Skew" control adjusts the LFO's slice rates of the second and third stages.

Diabolical Devices Fuzz Burglar Demo

Here's a demo of the crushing Fuzz Burglar. We're playing a 70's Strat into a vintage Fender Princeton silver-face. The Fuzz Burglar can do some tamer fuzzes but it excels at blistering, gnarly fuzz. Engage the self-oscillation and blast off!

There's a twelve-position rotary switch that controls the range of your base pitch and there's a knob for adjusting/tuning the oscillations. There's also a momentary "Drop" switch that will drop the oscillations down roughly an octave. The Fuzz Burglar can also sort of track the pitch of your guitar when playing single-note lines, giving you some awesome synth-like tones. Tune the oscillations to the key of your song and shred. Works great on synths too.

4ms Shuffling Clock Multiplier Update

After some thorough beta-testing the 4ms Shuffling Clock Multiplier module will be available shortly. The SCM is the perfect counterpart to the 4ms Rotating Clock Divider. Prepare to wield one of the sharpest tools available in the Eurorack format.

While the RCD divides the SCM multiplies and then some. The SCM starts by giving you straight and shuffled multiples of your original clock tempo. An "S" next to a number denotes a shuffled output. The rotate function is also available, allowing you to relocate the divided outputs to other jacks. This can be controlled via modulation sources like an LFO or sequencer track to give you more happy accident rhythms than you handle.

The "Slip" function allows you to drop out pseudo-random clock output pulses. This is done via a control voltage input and could also be sequenced. Paired with the RCD, the SCM will literally run circles around your music. The pulse outputs could trigger envelope generators or open VCA's and low pass gates directly. Incredible variations on a theme can also explode with the use of even a simple sequencer.

Although the RCD breakout panel is still in development, the SCM will have a pluggy cohort sometime soon. The breakout panel will allow you to control the shuffle amount and decide how many clocks will be shuffled via knob or CV. You will also have control of the pulse width output which can come in handy an high speeds. More on this soon.

4ms Noise Swash Pedals Back in Stock

Back in stock and ready to ship!

New Dirty Boy "Stone Boy" Pedal!

Words From Alex Saraceno

Once a year, I introduce a new pedal to my line.
This year it is called the " Stone Boy "
Of all my children, this is the one that took longest to conceive. ( 8 months of R&D )
There are many things that make this one different from any other in the line.
For one thing it runs on 2 X AA batteries, super cool concept which allows the pedal to run cooler and last forever but don't worry you don't have to get a 3 volt charger since the voltage for the adapter is being reduced INSIDE the pedal, and your standard 9 volts wall wart will work fine.
Now for the sound.
I wanted to emulate the fattest lead sound possible and the smoothest ever.
I kept thinking of Leslie West at his peak and how his guitar sounded like 3 guitars when he did his leads.
This pedal is not for noodlers or posers, but for precise and professional players who want to destroy.
It is a total redesign of old technology which had a lot of flaws since it was too early for its time.
I cleaned everything up with later designs but left one position on the frequency selector ( the highest ) for the real early fuzz effects in case yo want to use it.

We will soon have a video available as well as some soundclips, but for the hard core followers of the Dirty Boy Pedals, I am releasing it early since I am confident that those who buy it blindly will be satisfied...

Available here.

Studio Electronics CODE 4 OD - A Few Presets

Here's a smattering of presets from the mega-awesome polysynth from Studio Electronics, The CODE 4OD. The CODE sports Moog and Oberheim-style filters stock. Yamaha CS-80, Arp 2600 and TB-303 style filter cards can be added by the user. The CODE's we carry come standard with four voice cards which give you four-note polyphony. Other voice cards can be added, allowing you up to eight voices total. This is definitely one of the best sounding polysynths ever made and has some great modern features like storable presets, LFO's that sync, cross-modulation, and a switchable overdrive on the output section(hence the "OD") Please note that the Code sounds much better in person or with a proper preamp;) The chord sequence is being generated by the Elektron Machinedrum midi machine.

New Analogue Systems CV Recorder Module

There's a super-cool new module in the works from the British brains at Analogue Systems. It's a CV recorder. Here are some preliminary specs. We can't wait!

"This module will re create the KS section of the legendary EMS synthi AKS when in Real Time mode.In Step Time mode it will emulate the Roland SH101 sequencer section. In addition the module is a 4 channel cv recorder with non volatile memory contained in 12 banks. We are working on the possibility of layering up to 4 tracks of recorder cv data but this spec may vary subject to change

MMC card on-board for storage.
Switches:

Playback

· One shot
· Loop
· Hold - like one-shot but it will remember it's place when you stop playing and resume from that point. The reset input resets back to the start.
· Forward
· Reverse
· Bi-dir. In one-shot mode should this reverse each time it is triggered

Sequencer mode

· Step - Records/plays back the levels each time it is triggered. While playing back this would be very similar to step sequencers. You need to provide an external gate in this mode.
· Continuous/Real Time - The outputs simply track the inputs. Clock in is recorded along with the CVs so you can record gates/triggers. Playback rate is controlled by the speed pot/CV.
Trigger mode.
· Trigger - A trigger on PLAY starts playback,a trigger on STOP stops playback. The same goes for record
· Gate - PLAY/RECORD are gates. STOP does nothing
· Start/stop - A trigger on PLAY starts playback, another trigger on PLAY stops playback. The same goes for record
Memory.
· 10 (maybe 12) independent recordings can be stored.
Sockets:

Clock in In step mode this provides the step clock. In continuous/Real Time mode it is recorded and output on clock out when playing back.
Clock out In step mode this mirrors clock in. In continuous/Real Time mode it outputs the recorded clocks/triggers.
Reset Resets the loop back to the beginning but does not stop playback. Probably most useful in hold mode.
CV outs While recording they mirror the CV inputs so you can monitor the inputs. In step mode while recording the outputs only change on each gate so you hear exactly what is being recorded."

Malekko 8NU8R Attenuator Preview

Here's a short video from Josh at Malekko showcasing the brand new 8NU8R module. It's a full-featured attenuator module that's only 4hP! The module is a dual module, with two channels of attenuation. With something plugged into the input it acts as an attenuator, with nothing plugged into the input it becomes a static voltage source. You can also rectify the incoming signal. This means only the positive part of the waveform will be outputted. So if you're using a sine LFO as the source the output could be used as a vibrato-like modulation source. This would give you vibrato similar to a guitar player because typically a guitar player's vibrato only bends the pitch up. Wait! You can also switch a jumper on the back giving you a half-rectified wave giving you even more flexibility. This may be the most capable attenuator to date! Stay tuned for availability details...

New Division-6 Module Coming Soon!

Quoted from Division-6.com

"The Multiplicity XV is a buffered multiple; every single output jack regenerates your signal. Whether you are splitting audio or control voltages, there is no degradation.

Multiplicity's channels are cascaded, giving you flexibility in how many ways you split your signal. Plug a signal into input 1 and it will be available from all 15 outputs. Add a different signal into input 3 and it breaks the chain; signal 1 comes out 6 outputs and signal 2 is available at the remaining 9. You can have up to 5 inputs split 3 ways each.

The Multiplicity XV is a 10HP Eurorack module."

4ms ABG and the Ekdahl Moisturizer

Here we have the 4ms Autonomous Bassline Generator running through the Ekdahl Moisturizer. The ABG is a kit that can be easily built and is a whole lot of fun. It can continually produce varying melodies seemingly by magic!

The Moisturizer is a super-cool spring reverb unit with an analog multimode filter and LFO for modulation. One of the best things about the Moisturizer is that there are controls for wet/dry amounts for both the filter and reverb sections. The built in LFO can modulate the filter cutoff frequency and the filter mode which can yield some great results. There's also a host of jacks on the back of the Moisturizer, giving voltage control over filter cutoff, filter mode, wet/dry amounts for reverb and filter as well as LFO speed and an LFO output. Gated, filtered, modulated, funkdafied spring reverb! The Moisturizer sounds great on guitar too and anything else you can think of;)
