Malekko / Wiard Boogie Filter Episode 1 - Boogie Basics

Made by Malekko and designed by Wiard, the Boogie is a great sounding filter module. A resonant low pass, the Boogie has two audio ins, two cv inputs(one key in and one with attenuator). and outputs for 6dB, 12dB, 18dB and 24dB. There are two user-friendly jumpers on the back of the module that control the phase of the 12 and 24dB outputs. The Boogie ships with the jumpers in the out of phase position. If you mix all the outputs together you can get some great variations happening. We're using the Analogue Systems rs165 Signal Mixer, the Cwejman VCO-2RM saw wave and the Analogue Solutions Vostok sequencer.

Congratulations Korg!

We were talking to our Korg sales rep. the other day and he mentioned that the 100,000th Korg MicroKorg keyboard just came off the assembly line. Unofficially that makes the MicroKorg the best selling synthesizer of all time. Amazing.

Malekko / Wiard Borg Filter Episode 3 - Voice of the Borg

Ayyye! Here's a fun little patch involving a Cwejman square wave, the Analogue Systems rs60 ADSR to modulate the cutoff, and the sample rate reduction of the Elektron Machinedrum (any bitcrusher). With a little patience you can get aye's and yeahs. It's the voice of the Borg! And yes, we are dorks. Stay tuned for the next episode where we do some really fun stuff with the new Boogie filter.  Available now!

Malekko / Wiard Borg Filter Episode 2 - Modes & Modulation

Here we have the Cwejman VCO-2RM saw wave output running into the Borg. We're modulating the "Key In" with a slow sine wave LFO. This jack does a pretty good job of tracking 1v/oct actually! We are also running the sample & hold output of the Analogue Systems rs40 into the "Control In". You can hear how good this filter sounds when we start to crank up the resonance.

The bottom knob sweeps from low pass to high pass and you can hear the Korg part of the name Borg come out. Cool. The resonance is really really close to the MS-20. Halfway through you can see we pull the jumper off the back pcb and unleash the resonant fury! We then pull the slow LFO out and you can hear the cutoff bounce around to the S&H. Love it! Sorry about the weird glitch at the beginning.

The modules will be here Friday!

Malekko / Wiard Borg Filter Episode 1 - Low Pass Gate

Here's the first installment of a series of videos of the new Malekko / Wiard Borg and Boogie Filters

The Borg is an incredible mutant module birthed in the mind of designer Grant Richter of Wiard. It's a cross between a Buchla low pass gate and a Korg MS-20 filter. Thanks to Malekko Heavy Industry the module is now in Eurorack format and it sounds amazing!

We are sequencing a Cwejman VCO-2RM sine wave oscillator with an Analogue Solutions Oberkorn MkIII. The gate output of the sequencer is triggering a Plan B Model 10 Polyphonic envelope set to a really short pulse. Really really short. Using this type of envelope with a regular VCA would result in a click, no tone.

The Borg plays nice in this instance but the next video will show the meaner side of this beast. There's actually a jumper you can remove from the back pcb which gives you an extra large helping of resonance.

The "Peaking BP" is actually a pot with a switch. In the off mode, fully CCW, the Borg is in VCA mode. When you start to turn it clockwise it begins to take on a whole new character. The knob at the right we're adjusting is the CV input amount. This also has a big effect on the character of the low pass gate sound. Malekko Rocks!

Order them here. Our first shipment will be here on Friday5/22.

P.S. The sweet blue LED does light with every trigger pulse, you just can't see it because of the frame rate of the camera or something.

Analogue Systems rs360 as a Resonator

The A.S. rs360 Vocal/Phase filter is an awesome sounding three-band resonant filter module. Each filter has 1v/oct cv input and there's a master frequency control with an additional cv input and attenuator. You can use this bank of filters as an equalizer, to get great vocal and formant sounds, or as a resonator (and a lot more actually!). We're running some drum sounds into the filter inputs as well as controlling the "pitches" of each band via a midi to cv converter. This module is a lot of fun. We've tuned the filters to different intervals which makes it a bit more interesting. The rs360 can be used as an oscillator to great effect on it's own too! Sorry the resonance ending being a little hot for the camera input. We turn the dry sound of the drums up at the end too.

Telemark Machinedrum

Here's the incredible sounding Analogue Solutions semi-modular Telemark. It's based on the Oberheim SEM but it definitely has the signature ASol gnarly factor. The Telemark opens the SEMblance model to have patch points, allowing you to integrate it with other synth gear easily. You can process external sounds with the Telemark too. It has a great sounding filter with low, high and an extensive bandpass mode. For his demo we're using the low pass mode only. Sequencing and drum sounds courtesy of the Elektron Machinedrum.

More 4ms Pedals on Their Way!

Here's a picture of the most recent batch of pedals we'll be receiving from 4ms. Stay tuned a super special announcement in the upcoming weeks!

Metasonix r-52 Multimode Filter Audio Demos

There are some demo sounds up now on the Metasonix website. The r-52 was recently revised and it will self-resonate. This is an incredible sounding tube-based filter. There's nothing out there that sounds like this module. It can subtly warm up any source or seriously mangle things with the help of the CV inputs. Check out the samples here. The modules should be here within a week. Reserve one now.

Spring Chicken and the Vostok

Here's a dirty little sequence from the Analogue Solutions Vostok suitcase synth. We're running it through the new Malekko Heavy Industry Spring Chicken reverb pedal. The Spring Chicken sounds awesome and the controls are pretty easy. You've got one knob. If you want more spring reverb, turn it up! This is the super slick red version of the Vostok. We decided to skip the pin matrix (not Matrixsynth!) and use patch cables this time. The Vostok is pretty gnarly and it's definitely unique.

Folktek BCM Edition Micro Garden

The Micro Garden is cool little box, equally at home as art or a musical instrument. The BCM edition has super short delay times, tap-tempo, and reverse delay. The front panel is also interesting with the etched circles. The Micro Garden makes sounds we've never heard!
